Rashid Latif, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper/batsman, is extremely impressed by the performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and is confident of a bright future of both the young batsmen.
The Green Shirts lost the Test series by a margin of 0-1, despite starting the tour as firm favourites. However, some of the youngsters like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037, Azhar and Asad showed immense promise, turning out to be the only positive for Pakistan to take from
the series.
In the previous years, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has struggled in the batting department, failing to find solid dependable batsmen, who could take the Men in Green to new heights. Since the last couple of years however, some young and capable batsmen, including the above
mentioned duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595, have emerged through the ranks of domestic cricket.
While expressing his views to Pakpassion, the former Test captain praised the efforts of the two right-handers but meanwhile, urged PCB to prepare these cricketers for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, which starts early next year and will surely test the
Pakistan batsmen’s technique.
Rashid said, “These youngsters are our assets. We must groom these players and as we have to play on bouncy wickets in future, we need to iron out any flaws in their batting to prepare them for the South African tour.”
Azhar, the top-order batsman from Lahore, scored two hundreds in the series, whereas, Asad achieved one, which came under immense pressure in the Pallekele Test. The former scored a couple of brilliant half-centuries in the ODI series as well.
The former cricketer from Karachi further added that the couple’s recent performances prove that Pakistan’s domestic cricket has the potential to produce quality batsmen, claiming that many youngsters are still waiting in the wings.
“Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali came from our present domestic cricket system and were then kept with the senior team for quite some time. That’s why they have been able to produce the results now. There are many other young players like them in the country –
you will see them prove themselves if given the opportunity,” the former skipper concluded.
