Azhar Mahmood stars in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851: Friends Life Twenty20 - First Innings Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Thursday, July 14, 2011.
The visitors had batted first and scored a solid total of 181 in their allotted 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a superb half-century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s all-rounder Mahmood, who ended up being the top scorer of the match with 60 runs.
Surrey fought hard and could have won the match if they had wickets in hand, but the team was all-out for 166 in 19.2 overs. They were given a fabulous start by opener Jason http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611, who top scored the innings with 53 runs, but the effort went in vain in the
end.
Kent’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Key-c2349 had chosen to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was perfect for batting, as there was no assistance for the bowlers in it. It was expected to remain good throughout the game, but Key wanted to pressurise the opposition
by posting a massive target.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 and Key gave a decent start to their team, scoring 23 runs in quick time. The latter was unfortunate though, as he was run-out after getting a good start to his innings. He collected 15 runs off 12 balls and was disappointed at the mode of his
dismissal.
This brought Mahmood in the middle. He played solid cricket and put together 39 runs with Denly for the second wicket partnership. The opening batsman was not able to carry onto the start he got to his innings though and was dismissed after scoring 22 runs
from 16 deliveries.
South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings. He was the second man to be run-out in the innings after collecting 11 runs off just five balls.
However, Darren http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368 and Mahmood launched an assault on the opposition after the fall of the third wicket. They collected 67 runs for the fourth wicket partnership, guiding the visitors in a solid position.
Steven’s outburst came to an end after he had clobbered 43 runs from just 19 balls with the help of two fours and five monstrous sixes. He was followed by the Pakistan veteran, who got out after scoring 60 runs off 40 deliveries, hammering seven fours and
one massive six.
An unbeaten 19 off 12 balls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 guided Kent to 181 in the end. The team lost nine wickets in the process, out of which four were run-outs.
Jade Dernbach was the pick of the bowlers for Surrey, dismissing two batsmen for just 23 runs in his spell.
