Question:

B 2 bomber?

What type of airfoil does the B-2 bomber employ? I mean I know it's kind of like a big wing, but you know what I mean.

I need to know because I need to do some drag and lift calculations.

Also is there a site somewhere (or a book) that already has lift and drag calculations?

Where can I find lift and drag coefficients for the B-2, or any flying wing for that matter?

  1. The B2 is called a Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) aircraft.

The specifics for the B2 are classified. Here is an interesting paper on a specific BWB analysis:

    http://aircraftdesign.nuaa.edu.cn/MDO/re...

This study shows a shape of a BWB airfoil and they do the lift and drag calculations based on certain assumptions (mostly stable fight conditions).

For the most part, stable flight, mach 0.85, angle of attack (AOA or alpha) 1, altitude of 42000 feet:

    Cl (Lift coefficient): 0.13244

    Cdt (Total Drag coefficient): 0.02026

You can read the paper to see the BWB airfoil.

When I was in school for Aeronautical Engineering (2001 - 2005) there was a book we could buy that had houndreds of general airfoil shapes and their properties. It came in helpfull for my design capstone project. I'm sure books like that still exist, look in a college book store or online.

  2. might be classified.

    found these interesting sites:

  3. Nearly all performance data for the B2 is at the secret-level.  I would suspect that airfoil design-being inherent to the radar absorbing aspects of it-is classified as well.

You COULD try researching the YB-49 for its lift and drag coefficients.  A polite email/phone call to the National Air and Space Museum, and/or the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB might turn up something useful
