If my calculations are right Ana's title defense meant she had 430 points to defend, and since she only made it to the semis she only got 195 points. This would mean she loses 235 points which would mean she has 3922 points while Maria still has 3986. Plz answer if im right or way off! Thanks for answers in advance

  1. since the points fill out every year it depends on how maria did the previous year

  2. yes! good calculations!

  3. Yes, Maria Sharapova is projected to advance to No. 2 on the rankings Monday.

Ana Ivanovic needed to at least reach the final to hold onto her spot, but because she lost in the semifinals, Sharapova was assured of jumping up to No. 2.

Ivanovic will fall to No. 3.

  4. yes absolutely..... she will have to give up her second seed ranking to sharpova......... thats the way the chips fall

  5. Yeah i think Maria takes over :( It mentioned it on tennis.com but it never really talked about it in detail.

  6. yes

  7. Yes and she didn't deserve to be ranked that high. Look at her accomplishments or lack of...

11 Singles titles NO Grand Slams and NO doubles titles.

Maria Sharapova on the other hand ...

19 Singles titles 3 Grand Slams and 3 Doubles titles.

Jelena Jankovic is even worse at ...

6 Singles titles NO Grand Slams and 1 Doubles title.

But since most Serbs can't count they think that being Serb and winning anything means that you should be #1.

Yeah lets tell Justine Henin that joke...

41 Singles titles 7 Grand Slams  2 Doubles titles & 1 Olympic Gold Medal

Now that's a world #1 Champion for ya!

  8. Yes, your calculations are correct. Even though Maria moved back to her No. 2 spot without hitting a ball this week, Maria definitely deserves to take back her No. 2 spot after being out of it for a long time since winning already 3 titles (Melbourne, Doha, and Amelia Island) this year, and the first player to win 3 titles in 2008 (Serena Williams did it after Maria later after winning the Family Circle Cup in Charleston).

  9. Yes, your math is correct.  Maria will be the #2 player when the new rankings come out Monday, and she deserves it with her results in the past 12 months.  The rankings don't lie, consistency and good results in the slams and Tier 1 events are rewarded.
