How much can i expect for compensation from them? For all the unsolicited calls I have recieved because of their mistake. I have never before been listed so how can it happen.

They charged me £180 for an engineer to call recently and they said it was because of the Sky box that I got charged.

I cant go to other providers because of where I live!!!

  1. Try making an appointment with the Citizens Advice Bureau, that way they can help you make the complaint on your behalf and you will not be left more out of pocket than you already are. Also B.T. will be less likely to fob them off as they may do if you called them personally. Good luck and i hope you get compensated!

  2. Please don't think that you would be safer with other providers because One-tel did this to me.  I was furious because at that time I was working with offenders within the Probation Service.  I don't like a lot of things about BT's service and would gladly change provider but I think they are all as bad as each other.

  3. There are a lot of possible questions, and it needs a lot more information before this can be answered.  Why and when was the Sky box fitted?  How can a Satelite dish affect a land-line? How long have you previously been ex-D? are the first that come to mind.  I worked on BT since it was Post Office Telephones in 1951, until 1991.   I can see no way that you can make a financial claim.  What you should do is to argue that you have been Ex-D in the past, and that as this has not been continued request a change of number.  I know that this can be inconvenient as a number of people will be aware of you present number, but unless you wait for a new directory (with your name excluded) this may be the only way.  I recently had a similar experience.  My number has never been published, but when I changed to BT Total Broadband using the BT hub, I was given (as goes with the system) a second number using broadband.  This is a great asset as it costs no more, and the broadband line (usable at any time) gives me free local and national calls evenings and weekends whichever calling option I am on.  The snag was that the additional line was printed in the Telphone Directory.  Arguing that I had never had my original number in the book I was given an immediate change of number which was operational within 2 days.

  4. Get yourself registered with the Telephone Preference Service. You can do this online or by ringing BT on 150. Being on the TPS cuts down the amount of junk calls and if any do sneak through you just ask if the caller is familiar with the TPS. Being charged for a service call because you have a Sky box is outrageous, unless it was the Sky box at fault. Even then it's an over the top amount. Have a word with Sky as well but don't expect miracles.

  5. I would ask them to change your number for you. free of charge. If you really stuck, why not get in touch with Dominic little from BBC'S don't get done get Dom? he's ace. sounds crazy, but these are the types of things he sorts out.
