Question:

B12 vitamin in sprouts?

Do sprouts (alfalfa, bean etc) have vitamin b12? I'm wondering because often people argue that the only reliable source of b12 is from meat products but of course it's not true. Does anyone have any more info on whether or not sprouts are a good source of b12?

  1. You know what is really absurd about this claim that you have to eat meat for B12 is that when they studied how much B12 is absorbed from meat, they found out, none actually. (If you google "Dietary sources of vitamin B-12 and their association with plasma vitamin B-12 concentrations in the general population: the Hordaland Homocysteine Study." you can read it for yourself.

Nor did plasma B12 increase from eating eggs.

Even long term vegans who do not take any vitamins have B12 in their plasma. But no one can explain that nor can they explain why they do not have the supposed symptoms (anemia or numbing and tingling) that a deficiency supposedly causes.

There is B12 in many plant foods from spinach and mushrooms, to chlorella and nori, and some fermented foods like tamari, tempeh, kimchee (depending on the type of bacteria used for fermentation some do have it and some do not). I have seen good studies to show this is accurate.

Sprouts - who knows - I haven't seen anything on that one.

But if you are at all worried, just do sublingual B12 once a week. Most people who have diseases from B12 deficiency are actually meat eaters who are elderly.

I have discovered as a vegan that the beef and dairy industries are so profitable and heavily subsidized they depend on spreading misleading information just to keep the whole thing going. They definitely try to scare us.
