What is the difference between BA or BS in Economics? I want to double major in Econ and get my BBA in finance. Which one would be better to do BA or BS in Econ?

  1. I don't know if any one is deemed better than the other.  At my school, a BS means you've taken at least 60 credits of math and science courses, and a BA means you haven't.  If depends on what you fill your schedule with, then.  Assuming you're going for a career in business, a BA with lots of useful classes like foreign languages or a BS with a lot of courses in math will be more competitive than a BA with lots of art history courses or a BS with lots of astronomy courses.  So I guess if you're planning on taking lots of math and science courses anyway, then go for the BS, but if you're not, then you'd be putting extra pressure on yourself for a benefit that's probably not much better, if at all.


  2. Do you plan to work as an economist after college or go on to graduate school? To work as an economist entry level usually requires a BS.  

  3. Get a BS if you have the chance, the more math the better.  I have always felt that lazy people got a BA when they had to choose a BA or a BS.
