Question:

BAA Told To Sell Their Airports?

BAA today have been told they may have to sell 3 of their UK airports, 2 in London potentially Heathrow, Gatwick & Stanstead as well as 1 in Scotland. It's been said that this may have to be done due to "Competition problems", why i ask, i don't know of any other Airport authority in the country that will compete with BAA even if they had to sell this airports. And what's wrong with BAA being this big, it's giving people jobs, providing a service to millions of people and boosting the countries economy. If you start breaking this up people are going to loose jobs and i can bet the experience of going through a UK airport will get worse. Why can't the competition commission leave BAA as it is, so what if they are making loads of money and are too BIG at least people have jobs and a service is being provided.

  1. What utter rubbish!

Gatwick is the worst airport in the world and I say that with the conviction of having flown around the world since the early sixties.

Far from loosing jobs it is highly likely that jobs will increase and I fervently hope that baggage handlers will be amongst the first as I have lost count of the times that I have had to wait up to two hours for my bags!!

It should also stop UK airports leading the world in lost baggage!

All the pundits point towards BAA maximizing waiting times to force people to use the shops and restaurants and indeed one airline has stated publicly that BAA refused to allow check in times to be reduced for that very reason!

With more and more incidents of drunken Brits causing hazards on aircraft reducing check in times will increase flight safety tremendously!!

  2. GOOD  close down all the airports and use the land to grow food , sooner or later and probably sooner there wont be enough food to feed the expanding  population of the planet

  3. Manchester airport is the best run airport in the UK and it's not one of BAA's. BAA has become too big for it's own good. They own the big airports in the south east. They have a monopoloy and can charge what they like for airport charges. It is bad for the consumer, that is just one reason they have been told to sell some airports.

BTW this is not current news, I've known about this for a couple of weeks at least.
