This is my second time asking but,

I found a brand new baby bird(new born few days old) and i have been feeding it sliced worms about this long ..... or sometimes this long .......(the dots is how long it is). I feed it 4 or 5 or 3 every 15 or 20 minutes. Am i over feeding it? Or am i under feeding it? Are the worms big enough? Any thing else i could feed it at THIS age??

Thank you ssssssoooooooooo much...again:)

  1. I have some birds that we let them lay eggs but u should feed when hungry like cut a lot then put ( the yucky slimey) worms in a small bowl there  ya go a feeder and when there older feed them bird seed.

  2. Dog food.

Canned dog food mized with warm water(:

Feed it[the dog food] a tablespoon[little bits at a time] every four hours.

make sure the baby is VERY warm, or it will die.

    Good Luck!

  3. How do you know the mom wasn't around? In my opinion, you probably should have left it alone. So, you should check your yellow pages and bring it into a wildlife rehabilitation center.

  4. DO NOT FEED WORMS, they can cause gapeworm which can be fatal.    Please feed a soaked dogfood mixture.  Here is starling talk's recipe. A baby bird will need to be fed at least every 30 minutes, 4 hours is way too long for an unfeathered baby

    ...Recipe: Handfeeding Mixture

    1 cup soaked dog/cat food

    1/4 cup of applesauce

    1 hard boiled egg

Avian vitamins (follow dosage on package)

Around 750 mg calcium (I use Tums Smooth Dissolve tablet) ground to powder and dissolved in a little water.

    Water

Mix all ingredients together, and add enough water to make it the consistency of cooked oatmeal as seen in the photo at right.

Please visit starling talk and read through the website.  I have successfully raised starlings with their help.  Feel free to contact me if you need......

  5. I have baby birds in my backyard, too. Ive been feeding them about that size worms also. But usally when they are hungry they open their mouths..so if you see them doing that then they are probably hungry. And yes, I think that is a good size. Also, It is good to let the mom take care of them, too, but i know they are soo cute when they are little lol. ok well i hope this helped

  6. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly. You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it. If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest. Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched. If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival. Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own. Look for a rehab here:
