BAD VALVES OR RINGS?

ok i have a 1997 eclipse gst with a 2.0L 4g63 4 cylinder turbo engine. I was having very rough idle problems so i did a compression test. The 3rd cylinder only had 25psi of compression all the others had exactly 175psi. I did a wet cylinder test and it stayed at 25psi. I have the head off and its being rebuilt at a machine shop I'm having the head machined because it was a little warped and I'm having all the valves reconditioned because they all looked okay to me and the machinist. He is replacing all of the seals and I'm putting all new gaskets on when i put it back together. i wasn't getting any smoke at all before i took the engine apart and my oil and coolant levels are still completely full and they are not mixing at all. Do you think the leak was in the head or do you think when i get everything back together the problem will still be there? Also my pistons are perfect there is no pitting on them at all and the piston walls are also perfect. I can move the pistons a tiny tiny bit back and fourth but ive herd that is normal. and suggestions about anything would be greatly appreciated! ALSO THE CAR HAS 100K ON IT! thx alot

  1. well if it was warped  didnt they tell you the valves was bad at the shop,,most likey was the problem.... valves or bad cam lobe

  2. swap that thing out for an LS7

  3. Did the car over heat at some time? Sometimes the thermostat will stick and cause the head gasket to blow at a cylinder and you will loose pressure in that cylinder! With the warped head that is what it sounds like to me! Never put regular tap water into your radiator because it contains small amounts of lime and will deposit along the top of your radiator and plug up the core and will collect on the thermostat and when cold weather hits it will freeze shut and over heat the engine! Only use distilled water and you can get it from any store for about a dollar a gallon! You mix it with your radiator fluid and will never need replacing again!

  4. If the engine is already apart, spring for the cost of new rings, if the cylinders test ok for wear, this is good insurance in the long run
