BAKU sweeps MULHOUSE – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
The ASPTT MULHOUSE squad had a match with the Rabita BAKU recently. The competition between the two sides was a part of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women that is currently being hosted by many of the European cities.
The MULHOUSE squad and the BAKU team met each other in Mulhouse, France.
The resulting conflict between the home team and the champions of the 2011 Club World Cup did not take long to reach its close as BAKU was able to assert itself as victors after making a clean sweep of their opponents.
Not only did the BAKU squad managed to win three back to back sets on the home turf of MULHOUSE, they won each frame by a comfortable margin that left no doubt about the superiority of the BAKU team.
When the match had reached its close, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores in favour of BAKU, 16-25, 20-25 and 17-25.
The start of the opening set of the game saw both the teams come out strong and the first technical time out saw the score close at 8-6 but in favour of Rabita. However, when both the teams came back from the break, Rabita was able to widen the gap and the
second technical time out saw MULHOUSE trailing behind at 8-16.
BAKU was able to extend their advantage to 20-10 and after that, it was only a matter of time before the guests were able to bag the opening set at 25-16.
Building on the momentum generated by winning the initial set of the frame, Rabita was able to come out strong in the second frame and take a quick lead at 8-2. However, the home team did not let go of the chase and was able to close in the gap before making
the frame reach a tie at 12-12.
The BAKU squad was determined to not to let the match slip out of their hands as a result of which the guests were able to secure another win at 25-20. The loss of the first two frames dampened the spirits of the home team which made it easier for BAKU to
win the third set at 25-17.
