BAM ensure every step to elevate performance of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is taking every possible step to elevate the performance of top shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, as they have lost their confidence and not won any major tournament at the international arena for the last two years.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who are presently World Number Six in Men’s Doubles rankings, have been losing to lower ranked challengers in numerous tournaments. Now, they are ready to do anything in order to get their winning flow back.
BAM has been taking positive measures to help them in getting a good flow but every effort proved to be useless as the duo failed to get good results so far.
Now BAM has taken another step as they have changed the physical trainer of Kien Keat and Boon Heong to improve their fitness.
Rosdie Ghani, who is working with Lee Chong Wei, will also train Kien Keat and Boon Heong to prepare them for the 2012 London Olympics. Besides Rosdie, all coaches in the national set-up will also assist them to get their confidence back.
It has been decided in the high performance committee, which was comprised on James Selvaraj, Ng Chin Chai and Wong Ah Jit, that Yoo Yong Sung, Pang Cheh Chang and Tan Kim Her will also provide their assistance to the top pair for getting better results.
Tan Kim Her, the Men’s Doubles chief coach, said that the shuttlers have to take these changes positively and he also wants them to work hard while attending three training sessions on daily basis.
He said, "Kien Keat-Boon Heong will undergo three sessions a week with Rosdie. I have already given the tournament schedule and his sessions will begin tomorrow (today)."
He further added, "I don't want them to just go through the motions without understanding why they are put under certain drills. They should also have a better understanding of the training programme, so I will have a discussion with them."
BAM is doing everything for the pair and now it is up to Kien Keat and Boon Heong to work hard a deliver better performance in the upcoming tournaments particularly at London Olympics.
