BAM president Nadzmi mentions his efforts to refute Elyas Omar – Badminton News
Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh, president Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), reminded national body’s efforts after receiving severe criticism from Tan Sri Elyas Omar.
Elyas, who was president BAM when Malaysia lifted Thomas Cup trophy back in 1992, opened fire on association after failure in recently concluded edition of this prestigious team event.
He passed judgment on governing body for their poor plan of actions which could not bear fruits as nation has not seen any world beater after Men’s Singles maestro Lee Chong Wei.
However, the man who is holding highest chair in association disagreed with his thesis and declared that they have given three World Number one campaigners in last ten years.
Nadzmi said, "We have created three World No 1 players in Lee Chong Wei, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei h*i."
He also briefed about current coaching and training setup and told that they have about 150 players in talent pool and they are trying to transform 70 local shuttlers into world class players along with national and reserved teams in Bukit Jalil Sports School
(BJSS).
He added that BAM is mindful that these local boys need international exposure and that’s why Malaysia participated in 43 international events last year.
Meanwhile, Nadzmi admitted that national campaigners could not raise the country’s flag in current season and showed disappointment over disgraceful results in 2012 Thomas Cup Finals.
However, he claimed that association did its job exceptionally well as all these players were given desired training facilities but they could not yield good results.
He said, "We are very disappointed, we had the best training facilities and gave the players enough exposure in tournaments but if the players don't have drive to become successful like Chong Wei, what can the association do?"
Later, Nadzmi opposed Elyas Omar by declaring London Olympics more important than the Thomas Cup and clearly stated that they are just focusing to ensure first gold medal in the mega event.
He said, "The Thomas Cup is important but we also have the London Olympics to focus on. We have never won an Olympic gold and have focused on that major goal."
Moreover, he also unveiled BAM’s strategy for future events by referring to special four-year-programme for major badminton events of 2016 and hoped that nation will see quality results just within two years.
