BAM supports Cheh Chang for new training strategy for Kien Keat, Boon Heong
Men’s Doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang has introduced a unique training strategy for top pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is supporting him in this plan of action.
Now Kien Keat and Boon Heong are sweating in nets for London Olympics and Cheh Chang directed them to practice with Mixed Doubles campaigners.
World Number eight duo has been struggling to revive its lost form and recent failures in series of international events brought both partners in the line of fire.
Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her praised this lateral thinking and briefed that the motive behind this unusual move is to elevate duo’s reach on the court.
He also stated that Cheh Chang will enjoy full support of national body to do experiment with Malaysian couple during preparatory period for the London Games.
He said, "Cheh Chang wants to include mixed doubles training for Kien Keat and Boon Heong so that they can improve on their court coverage. He will be given all the support to try out any new ideas until the Olympics."
The twosome of Kien Keat and Boon Heong is undergoing a bad patch as they have seized only the Malaysia Open title in the previous twelve months.
Now their next big challenge is Indonesia Open which will be test case for Olympics and National chief coach Kim Her has given them task to make into semi-finals of the tournament.
He said, "Kien Keat-Boon Heong also have one more tournament before the Olympics -- the Indonesia Open next month -- where their target of making the semi-final remains."
Kim Her avoided to give any reaction on this unusual method of his assistant and said that Cheh Chang has been given the responsibility to guide prime duo in their quest of past glory. He advised to wait for the final product in mega event.
The Indonesia Open will be in full swing from June 12-17 before mega London event which is set to be staged from July 27, 2012.
Kim Her also added that Malaysian duo has strange habit of losing focus and they must overcome this weakness to ensure best results in upcoming tournaments.
