BAM to hire Korean Coach, Yoo Yong Sung to train Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat – Badminton news
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have hired Korea’s Yoo Yong Sung as the coach for Men’s Doubles and his major task will be to train and prepare top seeds, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat for the 2012 London Olympics.
World Number Five ranked pair, Tan Boon and Koo Kien are passing through a bad patch in their professional career as they have not won a major title since the beginning of 2010. The Korean coach is expected to put the shuttlers back on the right track.
Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, president of BAM revealed that Yong Sung, who will initially work for six months on a probationary basis, will train the Men’s Doubles squad which will help the shuttlers to elevate and polish their skills to perform well in major events.
Nadzmi said, “We hope that he will be able to give Koo and Tan some extra input in their preparation for the Olympic Games. We also want to use him to train our back-up players.”
Former World and Olympic silver medallist, Yong Sung has also served the Men’s Doubles squad of Korea as a coach. Now, the Doubles squad of Malaysia will have five coaches including Yong Sung, Pang Cheh Chang, Rexy Mainaky, Jeremy Gan and chief coach, Tan
Kim Her.
Kim Her will not have any communication problem while working with Yong Sung, as the Malaysian has served the Korean national team from 2005-08.
Nadzmi further added, “We wanted the Korean factor in our training. We realise that our doubles players find the Koreans a real problem. It will be fantastic to have this Korean coach to give us the extra edge and the insight of the Korean way of training.”
Tan Boon and Koo Kien always find it hard to beat Korean opponents in key matches. They will definitely get an advantage while training with a Korean coach, who will help them in elevating their game and prepare them to win the gold medal at the Olympic
Games.
