BAM to increase intensity of training to prepare shuttlers for Thomas Cup Finals and Olympic Games
Wong Ah Jit, the High Performance team official of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), said that they will increase the intensity of training sessions for the top shuttlers to gain higher fitness level and also to achieve desired results at the Thomas
Cup Finals and Olympic Games.
Finals will take place in China in May while Olympics will start from the last week of July at Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England.
There are two and half months left in the Thomas Cup Finals and Ah Jit wants national shuttlers to put their maximum effort in training sessions and improve their fitness level in order to compete well and at least reach in the semi-final of this prestigious
team-event championship.
Recently, Malaysian shuttlers shut the mouth of critics by securing a spot in the Finals as they delivered fabulous performance in the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, which ended in Macau, on Sunday, February 19.
Ah Jit said that the coaches will increase the intensity for shuttlers in the training sessions in a bid to get them elevated standard of fitness and prepare them to prove their supremacy in the upcoming major tournaments in the badminton world.
He said, “We have about two and half months to go before the Finals. For Chong Wei and Kien Keat-Boon Heong, we will increase the intensity of training so that they can peak at both the Finals and London Olympics.”
He further added, “The key is in the physical condition of the players. If the players push themselves wholeheartedly and give full commitment to training in the next six to eight weeks, I bet they will go far in the Finals.”
Now, the top shuttlers have an uphill task ahead as they need to overcome their deficiencies by working hard in training sessions and become stronger in all aspects of the game to rise on both occasions including, Thomas Cup Finals and Olympic Games.
The World Number One in Men’s Singles category, Lee Chong Wei and Men’s Doubles number six, Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong, are Malaysia’s main players to shine on these prestigious tournaments.
These elite shuttlers are expected to push themselves to the limit in training sessions in order to become super fit and earn glory for Malaysia by proving their worth in the court.
