BAM wants two entries in each category in Badminton World Championships 2011
The Badminton Association of Malaysia desires at least two entries in the mega event of Badminton World Championships 2011, which will be held at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, England from August 8 to 13.
According to the rule of the Badminton World Federation, a country can send three entries in any category of the game if all of the three participants are ranked in the top 24 positions in the world rankings. Only two entries are entertained if the players
are ranked in the top 64 spots in the ranking.
This rule of BWF has put BAM in trouble as there are two Malaysian shuttlers in the Men’s Singles and two pairs of the Men’s Doubles that are ranked in the top 24 positions in the world rankings.
Among the Men’s Singles, Lee Chong Wei and Wong Choong Hann have qualified for the mega event, whereas in the category of Men’s Doubles, Koo Kien Keat – Tan Boon Heong and Gan Teik Chai – Tan Bin Shen are eligible to participate in the mega event. The secretary
of BAM, Ng Chin Chai said that the governing body desires to have maximum participation of Malaysian players in the Mega event, which will generate better chances to win titles in different categories of the game.
Malaysia has never won any title in the history of the Badminton World Championships. However, the World Number one, Lee Chong Wei, is the favourite this time to win the title in this mega event. Chin Chai said that along with the male shuttlers, the female
players also have the ability to get the much needed break-through in the mega event.
BAM needs maximum representation of Malaysia as its arch-rival, China, will be the most dominating country with having its full representation in all categories of the game in the World Championships. The Chinese shuttlers of all categories are occupying
more than three spots in the top 24 positions in the world rankings. To avail better chances of winning titles in World Championships, Malaysia needs at least two entries in each category.
