BAM will have final say regarding my participation in Axiata Cup, says World Number 1 Lee Chong Wei
Malaysia’s best player and World Number 1 Lee Chong Wei may participate in Axiata Cup at the semi-final stage but he is not yet confirmed as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will have the final say in this regard.
Chong Wei got a shoulder injury in the All England Open 2012 almost three weeks ago and remained away from arena for this period.
He skipped the preliminary round of Axiata Cup but now wants to play for Malaysian Tigers in the semi-final to help his team qualify for the title match.
However, Dr. Ramlan Aziz, the chief executive office of National Sports Institute (NSI) advised the shuttler to take rest for five weeks in order to get fully recovered.
That’s why Chong Wei did not participate in the opening matches of Axiata Cup and is now feeling much better as his injured shoulder is getting recovered rapidly.
Chong Wei’s team, Malaysian Tigers, will meet Indonesian Garudas in the semi-final of Axiata Cup that is offering lucrative prize money of US$1 million.
While talking about his current physical condition, Chong Wei said that he is not feeling any pain at the moment.
But he did not made it clear whether he is going to participate in the Axiata Cup semi-final as he will follow the instructions of BAM.
He said, “Right now I’m back to my normal routine in training and there is no pain in my shoulder. But I can’t say for certain that I’ll play because I do not want to force myself too much since this is an Olympic year ... anyway it will not be my decision
to make.”
He further added, “I’ll just wait for the next two days to monitor my own condition and it’ll all depend on the doctor’s report. Ultimately, the BAM will decide whether I get to play in the semi-finals.”
Nevertheless, if Chong Wei plays in the semi-final contest against Garudas, it will be a crunchy fight as the Indonesian club is balanced in both Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles.
At the same time, Chong Wei’s participation will certainly boost the confidence of Malaysian Tigers and they will try to put up fabulous show of top quality badminton against Garudas.
