Hi there, I just want to make sure I am checking the oil level on my bike correctly, I had the bike serviced recently but when I check oil level trough the inspection window is was by the “L” line (this is the bike on level ground and on the centre stand and cold from over night) so I got some oil and toped it up, but now doing the same exercise the level reads just a bit over the “F” line, maybe I put too much oil? Is it bad for the bike to have too much oil, what the best way to check for the levels? With the bike cold or when it has been running for a while and check after a few minutes? And if I have to remove some oil, what’s the best way to do it? Many thanks for your help and advice!! Regards D

  1. If it is above the F line, it is overfilled.  I did by mistake once and immediately noticed that the bike did not shift right.  As soon as I drained a little of the excess oil ( I put on a rubber glove and just loosened the drain plug for a couple of seconds ), the transmission shifter feel was back to normal.

I have the same Bandit by the way, an '05

  2. I had the same exact problem last month. To check your oil you have to start it for a few seconds then shut it off and check it. To get rid of some you'll have to let it drain out by loosening the drain pan plug.

Every body mentioned these suction devices and pumps but it was just easier to drain some.
