  1. Sneeb answered your question quite well. Just FYI, those of us who have been there, will never forget our days at Fort Lost in the Woods.

      Best regards to your son.

  2. It all depends on what job he is doing in the Army.  Some jobs have a combined training schedule.  Where as some jobs will put him thru basic training and then ship him to a different base to continue his advance individual training.  Either way, some new recruits sometimes get held behind for various reasons.  There is no way to know when he will graduate from anything until you know the start date of his basic training.

Normally, when a new recruit ships out to basic training, they will in process for 1 week.  (this includes immunizations, paperwork, uniform issue, and so on)  Basic training will normally begin for the new recruit the following Monday after their 1 week of in processing.  Basic Training will last 9 weeks.  Do the math on your own as to the projected date.

However, if his Basic Training and AIT are conjoined, then it unsure when he will graduate until you know what his MOS is.  Your best bet is to wait for a phone call or a letter from him where he will let you know exactly the dates.

Be sure to write him many letters and send pictures.  It will help his moral tremendously.  Everyone waits for mail call that day with the hopes of getting something from home.

  3. OSUT is one training place and time. He will do the full 14 weeks then graduate (then he might get the option to take some leave, or go to his first Duty Station). I did 18 weeks OSUT at Ft. Knox.

OSUT Starts the day he got there...

Please write him often, mail is a huge moral booster. And it's

E co, 31st Engineer BN, 1st Platoon (capitalize and take pride that your son is doing something for our country)

When he does get to his first duty station, if it's over seas, be prepared for him to ask for you to send him things that he can't get over there. I relied on my mother and she was a godsend... I thinks moms have to deal with more
