Despite managing to win 2-0 against the Belarusian outfit in Borisov, Rudi Garcia's side have no hopes of securing a berth for Europa League.
Thanks to two first half strikes from Djibril Sidibe and Gianni Bruno, Ligue 1 outfit, LOSC Lille registered their first points of the Champions League. However, it was a little too late for Rudi Garcia's side who will finish the group stages in last place,
thanks to a 1-1 draw between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 and Bayern Munich.
Garcia’s young boys stole the show as the performances by the younger players proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Djibril Sidibe, Gianni Bruno and Lucas Digne shining for the Ligue 1 outfit.
Prior to the game, Les Dogues had not managed to secure a single point from their last 4 games in the Champions League. Their elimination seemed certain after their defeat at Allianz Arena, where they were hammered 6-1 by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Bayern-Munich-c39081.
The Belarusian champions were hoping to qualify for the Champions League knock-out phase, provided they won the game against Lille. BATE seemed determined in achieving that feat as they ran out as surprising winners against German giants, Bayern Munich,
earlier this season.
On the other hand, the Mastiffs had not won a single game throughout the group stage, and were heading into the game with a negative goal difference of 12, the worst defensive record in the Champions League this term.
The Minsk-based side started showing their dominance early in the game, as they kept most of the possession. However, it wasn’t entirely fair play, with careless tackles and fouls coming from both sides.
With just 14 minutes into the game, the first goal of the game was scored. A failed clearance by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denis-Polyakov-c10876 resulted in Sidibe’s gaining possession, who in turn, managed to score from the edge of the box, giving the former French champions an early advantage
over their rivals.
It wasn’t long before the Belarusian defender slipped once again, when he was beaten by Lucas Digne at the left flank. Digne then sent in a cross that was met by another youngster, Bruno, who headed the ball past Andrey Gorbunov. Lille were 2-0 up against
BATE with hardly 30 minutes played in the first half.
BATE Borisov seemed to be the more attacking side in the second half, as the team had a total of 6 shots at goal compared to LOSC’s only one. However, the French club fought back to regain possession that they had lost earlier in the game.
The hosts were provided with an advantage when the 20-year-old goal scorer, Sidibe, was sent off in the 75th minute for a late tackle on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maksim-Bordachov-c23213. But despite the advantage, Viktor Goncharenko’s men were unable to find the equalizing goals.
The result would not cause much difference in the group table other than shattering the Belarusians' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase, while Les Dogues do not have anything to gain, despite their victory at the Stadyen Dynama.
