BBC Trust to establish temporary radio station - Olympics
It has recently been revealed that BBC Trust will be working to establish a radio station that will serve to cover the London 2012 Olympics next year. The plans for the project have already been approved.
According to what has been negotiated, BBC Trust will be working on a temporary radio station that will also provide live coverage of the Olympic events next year. According to what has been agreed, BBC Trust has undertake to broadcast 1000 hours of live
coverage of the Olympic events as and when they take place next year.
Apart from this, BBC Trust has also assured its support for a proposed plan for BBC Three to give live coverage of the Olympic Games next year. According to the BBC director of London 2012, Roger Mosey, the live coverage will allow fans to watch the games
and enjoy themselves.
"We will extend BBC Three's hours during the Games so that it can offer a daytime sport service alongside our earlier decision that BBC Three would be one of the channels carrying Olympic coverage in peak. This is being achieved partly by using the BBC Parliament
bandwidth as we did in Beijing, but making it easier to find by putting it under the BBC Three banner rather than as an additional red button stream,” Mosey said.
According to what has been planned out, the cost of coverage on BBC Three is estimated to be £4.5 million. This cost will be incurred if the channel only provides live coverage of the event during the day. The day time is not the usual time for BBC Three
to be broadcasting as its programs are aired in the evenings.
Mosey has also stated that BBC Trust will be increasing the hours in which the videos may be viewed online. This facility is being provided for those sports that will have a large base of online viewers.
With the Olympic Games coming to London for the third time in its history, the city is making all the preparations that it can to make the experience for its residents a memorable one.
