Me and my husband want to get to Nanimo. and our plane arrives in Vancouver at 5 or 6 o'clock and we want to catch a ferrie from Tsawwassen to Nanimo. i read that the latest the ferrie runs is 10:45. Do we have to call to order a ticket or reserve a seat online. or can we just show up at the ferrie docks and get a ticket. is it usually full? also. is it verry far from Vancouver to Tsawwassen?

  1. No you dont need to call to get a ticket for the ferrie...you just show up and buy one, they aren't always full, only around holidays mostly...the trip is about 1 hour 20 min...not bad =D hope i helped =D

  2. If you are a foot passenger you just show up at the ferry and purchase a ticket and on you go.  The ferries will not be crowded for foot passengers BUT.  The ferry from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo goes to a place called Duke Point which is south of Nanaimo and there is NO bus service from Duke Point into Nanaimo.  There are taxis but no buses.  To get the ferry to downtown Nanaimo you need to go the Horseshoe Bay which is located north of Vancouver in West Vancouver.  That ferry takes you to Departure Bay in Nanaimo and there is city bus service there.  You can get a bus from the airport to both ferry terminals.  Good luck with your trip.

  3. If you're catching a later ferry, then you probably don't need a reservation. If you're renting a car at the airport, and you get in at 5 or 6, you will be out of the terminal by 7:00 pm. Its about a 30-40 minute drive from the airport to Tsawassen. If you're taking a ferry shuttle or public transit, maybe a little longer. The ferry shuttles (buses) always get on the ferry, they have a standing reservation. Walk-ons almost always get on, except maybe for peak times on summer long weekends. I haven't checked recently, but the reservation system online used to only be for vehicle traffic and cost about $15 to reserve (non-refundable if you missed your sailing time).

  4. If you need to take a bus to the ferry terminal, you will need to transfer once.  The 424 bus will take you from the Airport to an exchange where you will transfer to the 620.  This bus will take you right to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.  You should be able to catch the 8:15pm or the 10:45pm ferry.  You are correct that 10:45pm is the last ferry.  The trip from Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Nanaimo should take about 2 hours.  You could also take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) to Nanaimo (Departure Bay).  But, it would take a lot longer for you to drive or take a bus from the airport to Horseshoe Bay than it would to go to Tsawwassen.
