Question:

BCA Vs. BCA Pool League?

So I check the mail today and I received a package from the BCAPL. It's the new official rule book. This is the first time since the BCAPL broke away from the BCA that they have changed their rules. This is significant for a few reasons. There are a now a few BCAPL rules that contradict BCA rules. Since BCA rules are world-standardized, this now means that the BCAPL is technically no longer using world-standardized rules. I'm really torn here. I agree with some of the changes (of which there are actually very few) but I happen to disagree with other changes made by the BCAPL. For those of you who are familiar with these new changes, what is your take on this? I almost wish that the BCA would buy back the BCAPL and promote it more enthusiastically than before. As a referee for the BCAPL and a teacher for the BCA, for the first time now I'm forced to have conflicting views on the rules. All in all, I like certain clarifications that were made, but little else.

  1. Why don't you post some of the rule changes, I'd like to see them. Like other leagues, most BCA leagues are played on bar tables, which require a couple changes. For instance you HAVE to make an 8 on the break (in 8 ball) either a win or loss. Nobody would play in a league in which they had to pay for a game twice just because they made a good break.

  2. Man I have to get back to town or renew my adress I havent got mine yet

That is my biggest and longest gripe with leagues they fly the BCA banner but play any rules they like.

That was the case with the notebook paper a few weeks ago BCA all over the place even a wall mural size poster with BCA logos  but BCA Rules (AW we dont play by that s**+- ) couldnt belive it

Guess I better saddle up the horse and go to the mailbox Thanks Straight  Later

Matt when I had a tourn at the bar it was BCA and with open tables I just had a green fee $5 worked fine and used blue dot cue balls .but your right about most bars

  3. I'm not famliar with the new BCAPL rules, but I can't understand why they would change any rules. I mean if they lobbied the BCA to make some rule changes and then followed suit, it would make sense.

Most people assume they are part of the same organization, and I can see this leading to a lot of confusion for some people. It just seems like nearly all pool organizations are unwilling to work together for the betterment of the sport.

I am all for improving the rules if necessary, however I think if everone was more willing to work together, pool as a whole would be a lot better off. What we don't need is another set of rules that differ, causing arguments and division. IMHO
