BCCI advises ICC to reassess decision on Eden Gardens
The Indian cricket board on Friday has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reassess its decision of ruling out the India-England World Cup match
from the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
The authorities of the Kolkata Eden Gardens have assured that they will be finished with the renovation work within the provided time and will manage to host
the game of February 27.
The tournament director and chief administrative officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ratnakar Shetty revealed to media that they have
written a letter to ICC to reconsider its decision and now the final decision will be in their hands while the board’s officials were confident that they could host the India-England match.
It was reported that the president of Cricket Association of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jagmohan-Dalmiya-c65287 who is also a former ICC president, has appealed to the BCCI to discuss
the issue with the World governing body of the cricket.
Dalmiya, former BCCI secretary while referring to the 14-day extension given by ICC to other venues – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820’s Wankede Stadium to complete the finishing work,
requested for an extension of 10 days from Thursday till 7th of February to complete the Eden Gardens for the mega event.
Following the inspection of the World Cup venues, ICC on Thursday, ruled out Kolkata’s Eden Gardens for hosting the ICC tournament match between England and
India. The inspection team touring the three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 venues – Colombo, Hambantota and Pallekele along with the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which will host the World Cup final on April 2, have approved them with the guarantee that the final finishing work
will be completed within the time period of 14 days.
The venue inspection team which included the Tournament Director, Prof. Ratankar Shetty, members of the Central Organising Committee (COC) and the ICC, submitted
its report on Thursday on the preparations of five venues which are to host the ICC World Cup matches.
After the inspection report, the ICC Chief Haroon Logart has informed BCCI that they will now look for an alternative venue for approval by the cricket’s world
governing body.
“All venues had ample time in which to prepare for World Cup matches. We had been understanding and had provided extensions to the deadline dates but unfortunately
we are now at a point where we must carefully manage our risks,” said Lorgat.
