BCCI bars Indian cricketers from playing in the Sri Lankan Premier League 2011 – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) has barred its players from taking part in the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League, after finding out that the payments of the players will be handled by the event management company, over which Sri Lanka
Cricket (SLC) has no authority.
Speaking on the recent decision by the BCCI, an official said, “In the IPL the players are contracted by the BCCI, but the SLPL is offering contracts with the event management company, So, if there is any goof-up, Sri Lanka Cricket cannot be held accountable.
As a result, the board [BCCI] would not like to take any chances."
According to credible sources a Singapore-based company by the name of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 Entertainment Ventures will be arranging the whole event, beginning from July 19, 2011 and will last till August 4, 2011.
The decision by the BCCI has come in response to a request by some Indian players who wanted to go to Sri Lanka to take part in the league. Insiders have revealed that twelve Indian players which included, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143, Dinesh
Karthik, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-Khan-Pathan-c64469 were eager to play the Lankan League.
However, according to sources, the BCCI had not informed the SLC about the decision they were about to take and the announcement by the Indian board shocked the officials in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, who immediately called a meeting to assess the situation.
There are rumours that perhaps the Indian board took the decision in response to what the Sri Lankan board did by forcing Sri Lankan players to return for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 before the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL), consequently, Lankan
players missed the final matches of the mega league.
However, officials in the BCCI refuted such claims and insisted that the decision was taken on merit, to protect Indian players from getting into any financial troubles if the organizers refuse to pay the players after the event.
Nonetheless, the Lankan League has captured the interest of numerous foreign players such as Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Herschelle-Herman-Gibbs-c63096.
