The rookie Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin’s stunning performance against West Indies has been ably rewarded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, as the board nominated him for Dilip Sardesai award on Monday, November
28, 2011.
"R Ashwin will receive the Dilip Sardesai Award for being India's best cricketer in the 2011-12 Test series against the West Indies," said the Board of Control for Cricket in India in a press release.
The 25-year-old Chennai off-spinner was the star performer during the recently concluded three-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, as he topped the wickets chart of the series with a tally of 22 scalps from six innings, at an
average of 22.90.
The just concluded Test competition between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and west Indies was Ashwin’s debut Test series, and he was adjudged as the Man of the Series for his match winning performances in all the three games of the series.
The Chennai off-spinner claimed nine wickets in his Test debut at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780, and signed off with the same tally of wickets at the relatively flat and placid Wankhede wicket last week. He was awarded the
Man of the Match award in both the matches.
Ashwin also dazzled with the bat scoring his maiden Test century in the just fifth innings of his career when he scored 121 at an average of 40.33 in the first innings of the third and last test against West Indies, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 last
week. Ashwin’s stunning hundred steered India to a tense draw in the thrilling match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India had decided in 2007 to give the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566,
was given the award for being the star performer during India's tour of west Indies, earlier this year.
The rookie off-spinner will be given the Dilip Sardesai award at the BCCI awards ceremony in Chennai next month.
Ashwin debuted in the ODI cricket in June 2010 and has so far played 21 ODIs claiming 35 scalps at an average of 24.57.
