BCCI must compensate PCB for 2009 tour, says Ijaz Butt - Cricket News Update

Pakistan Cricket Board's former Chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, has welcomed the planned revival of cricketing ties with India, but at the same time, also demanded that PCB must ask the Board of Control for Cricket in India for financial compensation in lieu of the
cancelled 2009 series.
"It is a good thing that finally the Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited Pakistan to play a short series this year in India. But my concern is, the PCB needs to gain something more out of the series than the resumption of ties," said Butt.
Pakistan Cricket Board has already accepted the invitation from the BCCI to tour India in December to play 3 One Day Internationals and 2 Twenty20 matches.
It would be the first bilateral series between the two countries in five years, since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 2007 and played 5 ODIs and 3 Tests.
The Men in Blue were scheduled to play a return bilateral series in Pakistan in late 2008, but the BCCI called off the tour in the wake of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 attacks in November 2008.
Since the cancellation of tour took place during Ijaz Butt’s tenure, he said, he held several meetings with the then BCCI President, Narayanaswami http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srinivasan-c90829, and tried to formulate not only the financial modalities but also the revival of the ties. Sharad
Pawar the former International Cricket Council President was also present during those meetings.
"I had given the BCCI some options but the crux of these options was that India must compensate us financially for the cancelled tour of 2009. As per the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 FTP regulations whenever Pakistan and India play against each other it will be Pakistan's turn to
play host," said Butt.
The 74-year-old former wicketkeeper batsman, who played 8 Tests for Pakistan further said that he told Srinivasan clearly that PCB needed a firm commitment from BCCI for a return bilateral series.
The former PCB chief, meanwhile, said he had a meeting with the current PCB Chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 and briefed him about his meetings with Srinivasan and Pawar.
Butt, however, said that he had no idea under what conditions Pakistan would play in India.
