BCCI rejects Sri Lanka sports minister’s request to allow Indians to play SLPL – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has slashed down a request by the Sri Lankan sports minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, seeking a reversal on BCCI’s stand for the Indian players, to play the first edition of the newly created Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL).
The BCCI refused to issue No Objection Certificates to the 12 Indian cricketers who were set to play in Sri Lanka, on the grounds that the league had links with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lalit-Kumar-Modi-c72144, the former commissioner of Indian Premier League (IPL) and vice-president of the Indian cricket board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Modi-c76470, after being dismissed from his IPL post by an Indian court, has subjected the BCCI to severe criticism. Recently, he revealed some important facts about the board’s alleged conspiracy against the defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL).
The 12 Sri Lankan players, who were prepared to play the SLPL, include http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Chandrashekar-Valthaty-c81032.
The Sri Lankan minister, who had a telephonic conference with the BCCI officials two days back, was expecting a positive response but the board sent a refusal note today.
Talking to the media, Aluthramage said, “We made an attempt to convince them, but the BCCI told us that it cannot reverse its stand.”
He also clarified, “can say with 100 percent assertion there is no role of Lalit Modi in SLPL. I am unaware about his trip to this country, if he had made one two months ago.”
The minister also planed to send some officials of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to convince the BCCI but he discarded it after seeing India’s stiff stance.
Based on the pattern of IPL, the SLPL is a new domestic T20 tournament of Sri Lanka. The inaugural edition of the tournament is set to start from July 19 and will last till August 4.
The league contains 7 teams representing the seven provinces of Sri Lanka. These teams have hired players from different cricketing nations of the world.
