BCCI rubbishes calls for cancellation of Indo-Pak series – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday rubbished political party BJP’s demand to call off the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 late this month in the wake of Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s insulting remarks on his recent tour to India. The board in its statement insisted that the limited-overs series between the archrivals would be held as scheduled.
"There is no question of calling off the tour," Rajiv Shukla, a senior BCCI official and the chairman of lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), told PTI today. "All the arrangements have been made and the tour was planned much earlier. Politics should not be mixed with sports and the tour will go on," Shukla went on to add.
The BJP, on Monday came hard on Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shinde-c90027 for remaining silent and not responding appropriately to Rehman Malik’s controversial pronouncements, in which the latter equated the Mumbai attacks with the demolition of Babri Masjid and described LeT terrorist Abu Jundal as an operative of Indian intelligence agency.
"The Indo-Pak cricket series [commencing on December 25] should be cancelled. What kind of goodwill we are creating by playing cricket matches after Malik's visit," a senior BJP leader Yashwant Singh told reporters outside the Parliament House yesterday.
Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to tour India later this month to play two T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals against the hosts. Pakistan team will arrive in Bangalore on December 22, and the tour opening T20 fixture between the archrivals will be hosted by the same city two days later. The second T20I in Ahmedabad on December 28 will be followed by three ODIs at Chennai (December 30), Kolkata (January 3) and Delhi (January 6).
This will be the first bilateral series between the sub-continental cricketing giants in five years. Cricketing relations between the nemeses have been on hold since 2007, in the aftermath of the 26/11 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in a bid to break the deadlock.
