BCCI satisfied with progress of Yuvraj Singh’s recovery – Cricket News Update
Rajiv Shukla, chairman of the Indian Premier League governing council and senior BCCI official, has stated that the board is happy with the progress http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364 has made after undergoing treatment for a lung tumour earlier this year, praising the all-rounder
for working hard on his fitness.
"We (BCCI) are very happy with Yuvraj's recovery. He has been practising hard at the National Cricket Academy for the past one month. The physios and the trainers are keeping a close watch on him," said Shukla while attending a Champions League T20 promotional
event.
"We are hopeful about his availability for the World Twenty20 but then again, it will be the prerogative of the selectors. They will take a final call," Shukla added.
Yuvraj played his last game for the Men In Blue last year in November, a Test match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Kolkata after which a tumour was discovered between his lungs. Initially presumed to be benign, the tumour was later diagnosed as mediastinal seminoma,
a rare form of germ cell cancer.
The 30-year-old was flown to the IU Simon Cancer Centre in Indianapolis, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usa-c759, in January this year, where he went through three sessions of chemotherapy. Following a successful round of treatments, the southpaw returned to India in April this year.
Post-return, the all-rounder initially dodged queries regarding his return to cricket, claiming he was uncertain and aimed to focus on his recovery first. However, he moved on to express interest in easing back into cricket via domestic pre-season tournaments.
The plan did not come through, but Yuvraj began training and undergoing fitness drills at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where he was also being monitored by a team of medical experts.
The star batsman, who was the key figure in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, bagging the Player of the Tournament award, in addition to having won four Player of the Match awards, zeroed in on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 in September as the event which would mark his
return to cricket.
