Board of Cricket Control in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) is still refusing to participate in Sri Lanka’s inaugural IPL-style cricket league.
The Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) has invited bids for the sponsorship of the seven teams in the T20 premier league. So far BCCI has refused to allow its player from participating in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL). In a statement released by Lankan Cricket
Board, which is offering corporate sector and private individuals to become a part of “world’s newest and most exciting Twenty20 league.”
Earlier in May, Sri Lankan Board had announced the launch of its T20 league in August. The League was supposed to be held in 2011 but its postponement came in the wake of BCCI refusal last year. SLC was heavily criticized for giving the rights to a little-known
Singapore-based company with links to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lalit-Kumar-Modi-c72144 as accused by BCCI which eventually led to their refusal.
Some reports in Indian newspapers suggest that this time BCCI’s refusal is mainly due to a packed cricketing calendar. Also it is worried about the possibility of fatigue, stress and injuries to its players which could be caused by participating in an additional
tournament.
Sri Lanka Cricket said that it is yet to receive any official confirmation about the refusal from the Indian Board. Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713 told Reuters, “We sent invitations to all the full member countries asking them to release
their players for the SLPL. Several have responded favourably but not India so far.”
Sri Lanka plans to go ahead this time even if BCCI decides to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 with its decision as it happened last year, “Even if Indian players fail to turn up this time we will go ahead with the event,” he said.
SLC has planned all the teams to be leased out for seven years. Pakistan’s former captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier
League which also didn’t have an Indian presence but still met with considerable success.
The deadline for the bidding invitation will last until 25th of June.
