BCCI to meet on Wednesday to decide on Kochi
The Indian Premier League governing council will hold a meeting on Wednesday in Nagpur to decide on the future of the franchise of Kochi. The IPL franchise of Kochi has been embroiled in an internal squabble
caused due to a split between the co-owners and run the risk of being thrown out of the IPL.
According to one of the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI)officials, "The only point on the agenda [of the meeting] is Kochi."
The BCCI had warned the Kochi franchise to get its act together and form a joint venture if they wanted to continue being a part of the IPL. The BCCI had also given the franchise a 10-day period to do so,
failing which the franchise agreement would be terminated.
The two factions, Rendezvous Sports and rival group led by Anchor's Mehul Shah had tried to come to a compromise but had failed to see eye-to-eye on the contentious issue of the distribution of stake. The
two factions had then, through their respective legal counsels, asked for another 10 days to allow them to come to a conclusion.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791, BCCI president, said last week that the legal team was looking into the request and once they decided on it, the BCCI would come to a decision. The meeting on Wednesday is going to look
into the findings of the legal team and take the decision accordingly.
Manohar had also said that there was no similarity between the cases of Punjab and Rajasthan and that of Kochi.
"Kochi have not breached any agreement, our issues with them are different," said Manohar. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 were axed from the IPL after the BCCI found that they had violated the original contract
that they had with the IPL.
With the Kochi issue taking a lot of time to get resolved, there is a definite worry that the player auctions could be delayed. However, Manohar expressed confidence that the Kochi issue would have no effect
on the player auctions and they would go on as planned in November.
