BCCI unaware of Shoaib Malik’s participation in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 club tournament – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 in a domestic Delhi club tournament.
“This is news to us that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricketer Shoaib Malik has played in a DDCA affiliated tournament,” said a senior official from the BCCI. “We haven't received any prior intimation from the state association that a foreign cricketer is playing in an Indian club level tournament. The BCCI has already made it a rule that no foreign cricketer is allowed in any domestic tournament (barring IPL).”
In addition to the rule of barring foreign players from domestic matches (which has been in effect for the last three years), the BCCI has also restricted the participation of Pakistani players in the cash-rich Indian Premier League tournament since the 2009 edition, following the 2008 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 terrorist attacks which strained the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 in the recently wrapped-up 5th edition of the tournament, is the only Pakistani player to have featured in the tournament – however, he is also a British passport holder.
The current complication in Malik’s case arises owing to the fact that the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) have not informed the BCCI about the cricketer’s participation in the Lala Raghubir Hot Weather (40-over) one day tournament for Hargopal CC.
Malik reportedly arrived in Delhi on June 5 after having played the T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 (during which he performed unremarkably, registering scores of 9 and 27), and played one match for the Hargopal CC on the same day, at the Modern School (Barakhamba Road) ground, during which he scored a total of 26 runs.
DDCA secretary S K Bansal has stated that the organisation was unaware of the BCCI’s rule against the participation of foreign players in domestic Indian matches.
“We never had an idea that we need to seek BCCI permission for Malik's inclusion in Lala Raghubir Trophy. In fact, he played in another tournament in Delhi last year and there was no permission sought then,” Bansal explained.
