BCS Preview
The first BCS rankings are set to be unveiled on Sunday 17 October and there are several teams who will be vying for the top spot. Currently the AP Top 25’s top 10 features eight unbeaten schools, all of which have a chance at challenging for the national
championship.
Moreover, one cannot count out Alabama who has only suffered one loss this season. Although a great deal is bound to happen over the second half of the year, several teams intend to begin their campaign for those first two spots on Saturday 16 October. Below
is a list of several teams who could earn a spot in the top two in the BCS Rankings on Sunday 17 October.
Ohio State
The Ohio State Buckeyes at this point are the most likely club to take the number one rank in the BCS. The club has been superb this season, leaving nothing to the imagination, crushing opponents with a dynamic offence and skilled defence. Nevertheless,
the Buckeyes have only played one ranked team all season and have the most difficult portion of their schedule coming up.
Oregon
The Oregon Ducks are desperate for a BCS Championship. The Ducks have been the nation’s most dynamic team on offence this season. The club is currently fourth in the nation, averaging 317.8 yards per-game. In addition, the Ducks have a schedule worthy of
a BCS finalist. Oregon has already played Arizona State and Stanford and still has games coming up against UCLA, Arizona and Oregon State. If the Ducks are able to run the table they should be in play for the national championship.
TCU
The TCU Horned Frogs have an outside chance of getting their name in the top two. The University out of the Mountain West Conference has an uphill battle, as they try and prove they deserve a shot at the national title, while playing a relatively easy schedule.
Nevertheless, the Frogs opened the season with a win over Oregon State and have games coming up against #23 Air Force and #11 Utah. TCU will have to defeat both ranked sides if they hope to have any chance at a national title.
Boise State
The Boise State Broncos find themselves in a similar position to that of the Frogs. The club has an easy conference and therefore has trouble gaining support in the BCS. The Broncos have been a very strong team for the last three years, but are constantly
passed up when bowl season rolls around. Boise has already defeated ranked teams in Virginia Tech and Oregon State this year.
However, they will need to win their only remaining game against a ranked team when they play Nevada if they hope to earn a berth. There is no denying the Broncos are a stellar club and should be in play for the title game all the way to the end.
Nebraska
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have managed to slip their way into the top five and now have a legitimate chance at challenging for the BCS title game. The squad has yet to face off against a tough opponent; however that will change in the second half of the season,
as they still have games against #20 Oklahoma, #21 Missouri and Colorado remaining. If the Cornhuskers are able to turn those games into victories they could have a real chance at earning a spot in the finals.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners are already eligible for a bowl game with their impressive 5-0 record this season. Helping the club is the fact that they have already won three games against ranked sides, defeating Florida State, Air Force and Texas. Moreover, the
Sooners still have games against Missouri, Colorado, Baylor and Oklahoma State. If the Sooners are able to stay at the top of their game while other squads falter they have a real chance at the BCS title game.
