BCS Top 25: Week 13
The Bowl Championship Series saw a limited schedule this week with several of the nation’s top teams off on a bye week. However, with plenty of action from the club’s below the fifth place ranking, the BCS standings saw a great deal of change.
Top five
The top five saw no movement after week 12, as only two clubs were in action. Therefore, the Oregon Ducks still hold the nation’s top spot and have two games remaining in their schedule. The Auburn Tigers remain in second spot and have an all important game
against the Alabama Crimson Tide come up in week 13. Meanwhile, the TCU Horned Frogs have managed to remain in third, but are under pressure from the fourth place Boise State Broncos. Rounding out the top five are the LSU Tigers, who are coming off a win over
the Mississippi Rebels.
6-10
The 6-10 range also remained relatively similar to week 12 with the Stanford Cardinals still leading the way, as the nation’s sixth best club. Following the Cardinals are the Wisconsin Badgers, who hold on to their seventh place ranking. The eighth spot
now belongs to the Ohio State Buckeyes, who jumped one place from ninth. The Oklahoma State Cowboys also managed to jump a place and are followed by the Michigan State Spartans, who move up from 12th to round out the top 10.
11-15
The 11-15 range saw a great deal of change with only one squad managing to hold their spot from the previous week. The group is still led by Alabama, who cruised to an easy victory over the Georgia State Panthers. The 12th spot now belongs to
the Arkansas Razorbacks, who moved up one spot. The 13th place in now in the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners, who also leapt one spot in the standings and have been replaced by the Missouri Tigers. The top 15 is rounded out by the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who fell
all the way from eighth after losing to the Texas A&M Aggies.
16-20
The 16-20 range also had a great deal of change after week 12 with a number of teams making a late push up the standings. The group is still led by the Virginia Tech Hokies, who have been lights out, having won their last nine games. The Hokies are followed
by Texas A&M, who are celebrating a tight 9-6 win over the Cornhuskers. The Aggies ascension dropped the South Carolina Gamecocks to 18th, while the Nevada Wolf Pack also dropped a spot to 19th. The top 20 is rounded out by the Utah Utes,
who were able to jump from 23rd spot after a win over the San Diego State Aztecs.
Bottom five
The BCS standings welcomed one new team to the fold in week 13. The bottom five is now being led by the Arizona Wildcats, who are getting set for a match-up against the Ducks. The 22nd spot now belongs to the Florida State Seminoles, who were
able to move all the way up from 23rd, as they search for an ACC championship. The 23rd position is currently in the hands of the North Carolina State Wolfpack, who re-enter the top 25, as they are also in the hunt for an ACC title. The
Iowa Hawkeyes dropped all the way from 20th to 24th after their loss to the Buckeyes on 20 November. Rounding out the group is Mississippi State, who fell from 21st after suffering a loss to Arkansas.
Still fighting for a spot in the top 25 are the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Miami Hurricanes.
