BCS top five week 10 preview
The Bowl Championship Series is in its 10th week and the teams are beginning to close in on the end of the season. The pressure is on the top five clubs in the country, as they will all likely need to win out in order to have a shot at a BCS championship.
Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks took over number one spot in the BCS standings, while maintaining their first place spot in the AP Top 25 Poll, meaning the Ducks now have a clear shot at the national championship game. Oregon has arguably been through the most difficult
part of their schedule, defeating Stanford, UCLA and USC, and now has one difficult game remaining against Arizona. The Ducks should be able to hold on to top spot this week when they take on the lowly Washington Huskies. The Huskies currently sit at 3-5 and
will be without their star player and quarterback Jake Locker for the engagement. The Ducks' offence is incredibly explosive and should make short work of a weak Huskies side.
Auburn Tigers
The Tigers lost their first-place ranking this week, even though they blew out the Mississippi Rebels in week nine. Nevertheless, many would argue that the Ducks should have been ranked first in week nine as well and Auburn’s fall to second was unavoidable.
The Tigers have played outstanding football this season in a difficult Southeastern Conference. However, the club has one tough game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the last week of the season.
The Tigers have to win out if they hope to have a shot at a national title. In week 10 the Tigers meet the Chattanooga Mocs and should have no problem driving up the score.
TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU Horned Frogs finally got some respected and jumped up to third spot, after a convincing 48-6 win over the UNLV Rebels. TCU has a legitimate chance of playing for a national title if they can go undefeated this season. However, the Horned Frogs will
have their work cut out for them, as they have to take on the fifth ranked Utah Utes in week 10. This is the Frogs toughest test of the season and it could decide whether or not they play for a national championship. Nonetheless, even if the Frogs go undefeated,
they still need the Ducks or the Tigers to lose in order to have a chance.
Boise State Broncos
The Boise State Broncos continue to not get any credit in the BCS standings. The Broncos are a pleasure to watch, as they dominate opponents and do everything with near perfect execution. The Broncos were one of the best teams in the BCS last season and
returned all but one player in 2010. The most important game on the Boise State schedule is on 26 November when they take on the Nevada Wolf Pack, the only ranked team left on their schedule. The week 10 match-up against the Hawaii Warriors is also an important
one for the Broncos. The Warriors are at the top of the WAC conference with a 7-2 record and a convincing win over them could help Boise get back to third place.
Utah Utes
The Utah Utes are in a similar position to that of the Horned Frogs. The Utes have to get a win this week against TCU if they hope to challenge for a national championship. Moreover, the Utes need to go undefeated, while getting losses from Boise State,
Oregon and Auburn. The Utes have the toughest road to the title game, but will have a chance as long as they keep winning.
