Teacher's of Behavioral and Emotionally disabled children.?

Hi, what was your first year of teaching like. I mean, I have a classroom like this now and I am ready to have an emotional breakdown. I get hurt everyday. They run up and down the halls. They get each other to do things. They have learned nothing since the beginning of the year because they won't even sit down. They hit each other. I have a level system and rewards, and you can loose privileges, so that is not the problem. I am just at my wits end. Was your first year like this?

  1. See my other answer. Also, if you children are being that awful, you may be giving rewards to minimally good behavior. Don't give anything if kids are having problems.

Make sure your level system is like the one I spoke about. Many level systems do not provide a daily or hourly response for poor behavior and those DO NOT work.

My first year wasn't like this because I learned early about small groups and differentiated instruction. I did tend to over respond to misbehavior. Try some of the stuff I mentioned and also look at the book, "Tools for Teaching."

    Great stuff in there.

  2. Tap into the wise teachers down the hall, this is normal for the first year
