BEIJING to KUNMING by train?

Question

Hi pls tel me exactly how i can travel by train from beijing to kunming in september and 1) how much the cost is? ( per person)

(2.) How long is the journey? (3.) is it just one direct train? no transfers?

(4.) do u have to book it long b4 u travel? how to get tickets?

(5.) is it possble to buy tickets form the Biejing airport? from where to purchase tickets when u get to beijing ?

The Following data is for Beijing to Kunming

There are 2 trains the K471/K474 or the T61 leaving from Beijing West train station.

They take 1d23h07m and 1d14h21m.

There are no transfers but they have like 15-20 stops.

You can't book tickets online but they will sell them a couple of days in advance you can try to book through a travel agent would will then buy the tickets on your behalf

Cost is between 276 rmb to 865 rmb on the k471/k474 and 320 to 890 rmb for the T61.

Altvernatilty it maybe cheaper to fly from Beijing to kunming as tickets are about 600 - 800 rmb on www.elong.net

As for buying at the airport I don't honestly know if they hace a ticket booth there.

I'll do my best

1. should be about 400RMB depends on whether you take a seat, hard bed or soft bed.  I suggest hard bed and that is reflected in my price I suggested.

2. That trip could take up to 40+hrs

3. Should be able to go on one train

4. You can book before or you can just buy scalper tickets at the station for 20 to 40RMB more than actual cost.

5. Any travel agent on the street can sell the tickets. There are thousands of them.

EDIT: I don't care what the website below says, there's no way you'll make it to Kunming in 24 hrs. The train will be fast up to a certain point but once you get 3 quarters of the way it will slow down about 25kmph becasue of congestion and bad rail lines in the southwest.

It will take you about 24 hours to arrive in Kunming.
