I am a sophomore in high school and I have always wanted to be a teacher. I've always wanted to teach 3rd or 4th graders cuz they are more independent so you can do more activities with them and not have to worry. But after doing VBS for my church i really like being around the K and 1st graders but idk if i would like teaching them. They are so sweet and innocent and I love just hearing what they have to say. If you have any experience with teaching elementary, please give me your opinion on each grades and which ones are the best to teach! Thanks :)!

  1. I think it depends on the teacher.  Some people love teaching elementary, others love high school.  I think some people are more comfortable with elementery, some with the older students.  I teach middle school and absolutely love them, but a teacher has to have a great deal of patience (actually, all teachers need that) to teach them.  Having a goofy sense of humor doesn't hurt either.

  2. Don't teach middle school. They are generally more vicious then high schoolers.

  3. I taught Kindergarten Catechism for a couple of years and I really struggled, so I knew kids THAT young weren't for me. 4th and 5th graders are more academically mature so you won't have to be on top of them as much

  4. Teaching middle school takes someone special. It takes someone with patience and someone who can help students during a really tough time. I had wanted to teach middle school, but ended up finding a job at a high school.

I love teaching freshmen! They are still sweet and innocent, and still know how to be polite to their teacher.

My best friend teaches 2nd grade. She started out in a fourth grade classroom and absolutely hated it. 2nd grade seems to suit her just fine, you just have to have really good management skills to teach a class like that.
