  1. Affordable is quite vague. In all honesty, doing any modifying that will ACTUALLY benefit your vehicle's performance is NOT affordable. (Air intakes, Exhaust, and other bolt-ons add very little performance gains).

    Forced Induction systems (Turbocharger or Supercharger) is pretty much the only way to dramatically increase performance, without physically increasing engine size. And to keep your vehicle from destroying itself running with these attachments, it is wise to upgrade the crank, flywheel, piston rods, etc. so your engine can handle the extra stress.

    For starters, try a Honda Civic. There's tons of bolt on parts out there and they're affordable, reliable cars. I drive one (stock) myself and love it. Just don't expect it to go fast, regardless the upgrades :p
