Question:

BEWARE! Do you know this latest email VIRUS?

I understand it`s being sent by email addressed to "Dear Friend", it`s in the form of a "Hallmark card" with an attachment "postcard. zip." DO NOT OPEN THIS. DELETE IMMEDIATELY! These are the instructions l`ve received from someone l respect highly within the industry. I only know of one other currently in use and that`s The XP anti-virus, (nothing to do with windows). These are just two, and l hope it helps you from the misery they can cause. In return, anything else l should watch out for? Comments appreciated thanks.

  1. There is a message circulating with a virus attatched.

It says it is from UPS and  apologises for your parcel not being delivered. If you recieve this just delete it and dont open the attatchment

  2. These have been around for some time and continue to resurface, moreso around special occasions, Christmas, Valentines Day etc, but also at random times throughout the year:

There are also many other emails being spammed with zip attachments which contain dangerous trojans.  They also come from a variety of sources, UPS and others with subjects enticing users to open the email and download the zip file. Subjects include 'Contract of settlements', 'UPS Tracking Number' and more.

The simple solution is to educate users to Delete any email from an unknown source, and also to have a good realtime AV that will scan zip files.

  3. Hope this isn't a hoax message. Thanks anyway for the information.

  4. Thanks for the warning.

  5. Thank You Very Much.I Dod Not Know That.

  6. Card virae has been going on for ages. Its propagation depends on address books. Unfortunately, when one contact gets infected, many others do as well. People end up thinking that because it comes from a trusted (or known) contact, it's safe, but that's not the case. This type of malware is most apparent around holidays. If you get one, always ask your friends if they had sent you an ecard before opening.

If you want to read up on it, see the link below from Sophos.

Personally I delete such emails on sight and advise my family & friends of the malware issue.

  7. If you have a decent AV that scans incoming email it should tell you anyway. And anyway I don't open attachment's from anyone I don't know or expecting, so in my case the situation would not arise, but thanks for the warning!
