Question:

BEd Primary Teaching Interview!! Help!!!?

Hi, I have just applied, through clearing, for a place on the BEd Primary course at Marjon in Plymouth.

I have been successful so far, and have been given an interview date (Monday 18th August). I am very excited at the prospect of becoming a trainee teacher and really want to do my best at interview.

I am 22 years old, and have a few weeks experience of working in a primary school..However, the experience that I have was undertaken a few years ago and I am worried that this will stand against me. Over the last few months I have been "tutoring" a fifteen year old girl to help her prepare for her GCSE examinations. I am not sure whether this would make my application seem more desirable!?

Also, I don't really know what the interview for BEd Primary entails, and would be very very grateful if anyone could help me with this! I am not even sure if it is a group or individual interview that I will be attending!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!!

  1. i am also an education major and just graduated last march....before i graduated i was exposed on practice teaching for two months in an elementary school..and we did those sort of things, interviews, entrance exams and all.i dont know about in Plymouth, but when i was intervied it was like of a "panel interview".having the principal and other high ranking school officials..i think the experience of teaching you had a few years ago is a plus, and the tutoring thing...most of the questions asked are about your attitude towards work, and what things can u contribute mainly in teaching to the said school.sometimes, its all basic..just personal info, for all i know they r trying to see if u got the confidence in handling pressures..it could be situational too.they wud give u a situation and wud let u find and sort out things,if what will u do if this happens and that..you can do it..:) i am applying to be a teacher too..hope my experience have helped u a little..Goodluck to you.:)

  2. The fact that you are 22 years old and have had some relevant  experience in a primary school plus related tutoring experience with an older student is to your advantage. Most of the other candidates will be 18 years old and straight from school themselves.

Think about the differences between teaching a class and teaching an individual. Think about the differences you noticed due to the age of the student(s).

Prepare some questions that you can ask the interviewer(s) so that you won't always be in the firing line.

    Think positive! Good luck!
