My son has been sleeping thru the night the past 3 weeks. The first couple weeks I would wake up engorged but this past week I havent at all. Could this be my b*****s adjusting to his new feeding schedule?

  1. Yup, and enjoy it while it lasts.  This new sleeping schedule may not be a permanent arrangement!

If baby starts waking up again, you'll need a few nights of extra nursing sessions to bring your milk supply back up.  Don't convince yourself that you don't have enough milk.  You totally do!

Red, as long as you always nurse on demand, you will always have enough milk.  Don't wake up to pump!  That's just masochism!  Get the rest you deserve and don't worry about what will happen if your baby starts to wake again.

  2. Yup.  That's exactly the amount of time it tends to take to adjust 1-3 weeks.  Don't worry if he starts waking again it takes about 24 hours for the supply to adjust back.

Mother natures is good like that.  Your b*****s are quick to make more milk, slow to make less milk (though your baby is probably getting as much milk just at different times, and now your body is making as much milk just at different times. )

  3. This is not a quality answer, but I just wanted to thank you for asking it! I was literally just coming to yahoo answers to ask a similar question. My question is I'm worried if I don't wake up at night and pump, even when the baby is sleeping through the night, will the engorgement overnight make my milk supply go away....

But if you're just adjusting... then I guess not?

Thanks again! I'll be checking back!

  4. Yep thats it

  5. I've thought about this too. My daughter has been sleeping for 8 hour streches and I wake up pretty full, but not really engorged. She has been sleeping this way off and on for a few weeks. I am trying to feed her, put her back to sleep, and then an hour later, pump and freeze some extra milk. Well, good luck!

  6. yup. and congrats on the sleeping through the night, my baby is 7.5 months and still doesnt!

  7. You are right about your body adjusting.  It gets used to the schedule you have.  You'll find that you have the most milk in the morning, but you're not uncomfortable and engorged.  Enjoy the fact that you're sleeping more!
