BHA reschedules Newbury card to next Friday
The British Horse Racing Authority (BHA) announced some good news for the local fans at Newbury, who were deprived of racing action due to bad weather conditions in the United Kingdom.
According to the sport’s governing authority, the cancelled meeting has now been rescheduled to take place on Friday, February 17, 2012.
Cold weather has disrupted a lot of races in England recently, and there is nothing that the organisers could do about the situation. However, BHA finally took a step, which will please the fans and the local officials.
As per a statement released by BHA, “Following the abandonment of racing at Newbury on Saturday, the British Horseracing Authority, in conjunction with the Levy Board, has granted Newbury a replacement fixture to be staged on February, Friday 17. The major
races lost from Saturday's card will be rescheduled, including the previously rescheduled Scilly Isles Novices' Chase (Grade 1).”
The revised running order will see seven races, which are listed below:
The Betfair Super Saturday Steeple Chase The Betfair Denman Steeple Chase The Betfair Hurdle Race (Handicap) Betfair Don't Settle For Less Novices' Hurdle Race Betfair Supports Walking With The Wounded Handicap Hurdle Race Betfair Novices' Steeple Chase (Registered as The Scilly Isles) Betfair Mobile For Best Prices Bumper (Listed Race)
According to the race officials, all runners announced for the Newbury meeting previously will stand. However, the trainers will have to make a confirmation of their entries for the event restaged to next Friday.
Although the local organisers and fans will be happy with the decision of BHA, they will be hoping that the weather conditions improve in the coming days.
The temperatures in England have fallen way below freezing point over the past couple of weeks, and if the situation does not change, more events will come under threat of abandonment.
The latest meeting to be cancelled due to bad weather was Herford, where an inspection was carried out on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The organisers did not take long before making the final call, as the track was completely frozen and no action was possible
over the next couple of days.
