  1. Biofuels were a good and sound idea...KEEP READING, don't just assume I'm an idiot!

My husband and I live on a permaculture farm.  We run old John Deere tractors.  Not because be like antiques, but rather because we like items that LAST.

Our John Deere's from the 1930's & 40's run on "all fuel."  You can put gas, diesel, kerosine, alchohol, or biofuels into the tractors, and they run.   They're not too fussy...they just want something that combusts.

So we are able to grow rapeseed, and produce our own biofuel on our farm.  This runs our tractors (and trucks).  So how brilliant would it be for farmers to have tractors that ran on any fuel they could brew up on the farm?  How safe would it make our Nation's food supply if farmers were not dependant on oil from other countries?

How brilliant was it for John Deere to have that "all fuel" inovation (possibly now called flex fuel?) way back, when gas stations were few and far between?  It ment a farmer in the middle of no-where could use a tractor, and brew up their own fuel.

South America, a country that hardly has two nickles to rub together, and very little infrastucture, has managed to make themselves independant of foriegn oil.  They did it by turning their sugar cane, AFTER the sugar has been extracted, and using that waste farm product to make their biofuel.  Biofuels are a sound idea.

What the U.S.A. needs to STOP doing is making biofuels from food crops eaten by humans or livestock.  We need to use waste crop products to make biofuels.  That will stop the insane skyrocketing of food prices....it will also make the price of oil come down, because we (the U.S.) will not be so dependant on it.

Biofuel is a sound idea...it must just be done correctly.  Two years ago, potato farmers dumped 6 million pounds of potatoes.  How much of this goes on accross the U.S.?  How much of the waste products, like straw (farmers burn off) could be turned into biofuels?

  2. here is a more detailed explanation how insane ,the world can get .

on my Multiply page (link is on my profile page)under Eco problems no 2 are more editorials

Yahoo is now blocking any links from my page of being posted.

and the previous post by Bohemian is dead on ,to drive a tractor on cow manure is a great concept

  3. Your so right... it takes 27% more fossil fuel to produce green fuels, while we are in the middle of a food shortage. Even if we were growing all the grains we could for green fuels we would only have 7-9 % green fuel. We would never be able to keep up with demand..

AND did you know they are already adding ethanol to our regular gas which is cutting our gas mileage per tank by 5-12 percent which means we are using more fossil fuel? FRICKING A who thinks of this c**p!

    Good Question!

  4. The fool was Al Gore.

  5. Waste vegetable oil is green. Most grease renders feed it to cattle or chickens.Mad Cow anyone?

  6. Sorry, that would be me.  Anything I can do to make amends?  Would it help if I stop farting?

Seriously, the basic concept is sound, plants take up carbon dioxide when they grow and so when you use them as fuel you are just releasing what was already there before back into the atmosphere.

Of course it's not as simple as that though, if we could grow biofuel crops without expending too much carbon dioxide in the process and in areas where food crops aren't grown, it might work on a small scale.

  7. me, i know, its just stupid
