BIRD HELP, NEED QUICK ADVICE?

someone left a "toy" held together by thread in the bird cage. and so i guess the thread came off and now it wrapped around my cockatiel's toe. and my cockatiel isn't tamed enough to come out of the cage. so everytime we try to touch the string on the foot, it just walks away. and yes, it bites. so we don't know how to get the string off. i've cut some of the thread off to prevent it from creating another loop. but it wont let me come any closer. so i cant cut it anymore. does anyone know how to solve this problem. going to the vet is the last choice i have, but im afraid theyre going to charge alot. HELP!

  1. First off, get a towel to grab him with. Don't cover his head, as though he won't be able to breath and there's no need too when he could bite the towel. Do NOT use scissors, as though this bird could move his feet, and slash it cuts his toe (yuck). Tell someone in your family member to grab a towel and hold him still. Than grab his toe and pull the string off. Scissors can be very dangerous. That should be the last thing to do in case of emergency's. Good Luck.

P.s. gloves are not good. The bird can cut a piece off, and choke on it, and die.

  2. have someone else wear gloves and hold it and you remove it from the birdie

  3. dear bird help. the best thing I can tell you to do is to get someone to help you, take a towel and wrap it around the bird, cover it's eyes, hold the birds head between your tomb and first finger so the bird cannot bite you. with it's foot out of the towel unwrap the string. you should disguard that toy.

  4. Get a hand towel and take your time to catch the bird with the towel. Cover his head and hold him firm enough not to let him go but not to firm. cut the string off with some scissors then you can uncover his head  still holding him and pet him a little. This is also a way that you can began taming him!!!

  5. Put heavy duty gloves on that the bird cant bite through, and gently grasp the bird and hold it while someone unwraps the thread you'll need two people also if when you grasp him put a little wash rag or some thing over his head so he cant see what you are doing.

  6. hold the bird tight w/leather glove( so if it tries to bite u it wont hurt)and take off the string or corner it and w/ the glove take off the string

  7. Your gonna have to get ahold of it and take the string off.

Grab a towel so you can grab the bird - this will protect you from hurting it and it from hurting you. Cover its head and pull out the foot, then pulling off the string.

  8. just take it to the vet or to someone you know who is good with animals.

  9. Make the area you are at dark. Turn off lights put down the shades ect. If you need to put the cover on the cage. Wait a few minutes for the bird to calm down . Put on some leather gloves, look in the cage to see where the bird is, and quickly grab the bird. Hold the bird in the dark room (not so dark that you cant see) and remove the string. If you can, try to get the bird toweled before you get the string off, holding the bird with the towel and the gloves with double your protection.

  10. If it's not too tight on your bird's foot I would just keep it there. It will eventually come off or your bird will probably end up chewing it off. If it seems too tightly wrapped on the toe and seems to be cutting off circulation I'd get the bird to a vet, they shouldn't charge *too* much. Good luck.
