BJSS coach Lokman Yahaya optimistic about Norshafiq Sumantri: Hockey News
Lokman Yahaya, the Junior Coach of the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) has expressed satisfaction over the fresh blood coming into the field hockey. In his views, the 15-year-old youngster namely Norshafiq Sumantri is showing maturity in his game
and will assist his team in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL).
Sumantri, whose will celebrate his 15th birthday on June 17, is a very quick learner and impressive forward player. He represents Form Three Games and impressed the selectors with his brilliant shows.
The junior coach while speaking to the media said that the youngster has the capability to trickle past the opponent players and defenders to turn the chances into successful goals.
Yahaya was of the opinion that the Form Three Player not only plays at the forward position, but also helps the defenders to block the attacks from the other side. He expected that the youngster will get the award in the junior category. He stated,
“Norshafiq is also a hardworking player, who also comes down to help the defence. He has scored four goals in MJHL (Malaysian Junior Hockey League) and I am confident that he will win the award for the most promising junior player.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Norshafiq Sumantri has donned his play with flying colours in the U-16 National Hockey Championship and earned the Best Player of the tournament award. The junior coach further said that the youngster was also selected
in the squad of the Project 2017.
Yahaya while expressing the hopes said that Sumantri will deliver best performance and score goals against Junior Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS) in the third place play-off match in the MJHL. The BPSS will play against BJSS on Saturday May 21,
at the Tun Razak Stadium Hockey Stadium to decide the third position of the junior league.
The contest between these two teams in the Division One concluded at two-all draw. Sumantri was at his best in the match and scored the two goals for BJSS in the draw.
The junior trainer said that he was quite satisfied with the performance of Sumantri in the junior league. They gave defending champions, University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), a very tough time before losing the semi-final game by a single goal, 3-2. The
coach was quite optimistic in taking BPSS down and getting the third position in the contest. It will be first ever better finish from the BJSS in the junior league for last sixteen years.
In the meantime, Norshafiq Sumantri stated that the Best Player award in the U-16 National Championship improved his game. He further stated that he is playing confidently and surely will score goals to earn the third place in the league for his team.
