Question:

BMW 3-Series engine differences?

I was looking at buying a BMW 3 series Ci...probably a 2001, and there's a decent price difference between the 325 and 330. I know the 325 has a 2.5L engine and the 328 has a 2.8L. I understand how the models differ in engine size, but is there really a noticeable difference in power between the 325, 328, and 330? Is that extra half liter really worth it??

  1. I have a 330 ci and it is the most wonderful car to drive.  It is 6 year old and not at all greedy with the petrol.  Whatever you choose happy driving.

  2. There is a noticeable difference.  If there wasn't one, then why would they have the 3 different sizes.

  3. asides from horsepower there isn't really a diff

  4. if u r looking at 3 series,

    u will find 318,320,323,325,328,330.all depends on the years and u find E 36 n 46 models.

I have tested 318 n I find the 1.8L engine is under power for that body.

1 have tested 320 n is just on the border

I have tested 323 n has good power and no drags.

1have tested 325 n has more power than required, respond is good.

328 n 330 are overpowered for the 3 series.u can practically feel that the car zooms.also drinks petrol like a thirty runner.

I would suggest u get 325ci or 328ci,is more than required power.

    drive safely dear.

    take care

  5. It depends on how you drive the car.  In normal city driving, the 325 will probably be plenty.  If you're going to drive the car on the freeway and you need the strongest acceleration, the 328-330 would be a better choice.  For most people, the 325 will have plenty of power.  These cars are engineered to be superior performance machines.  They are not one dimensional cars (some cars just go fast in a straight line, but can't turn or brakes very well).  I have owned a 325i and I thoroughly enjoyed the car.  I now have a 540i, which is one of the best driving cars I have owned.  BMW cars give you strong acceleration, quick and precise steering, controlled braking, great suspension feel and comfortable, yet supportive seats.

My recommendation is to make sure you get the newest, lowest mileage 3 series you can.  Also, make sure the car has never been in an accident - if you're not sure, take it to a body shop and have then run a paint meter test.

Good luck and I wish you many years of enjoyment from your BMW 3 series.

    Greg
