BMW Championship on the FedExCup Playoffs: Highlights – Part 2
John Senden’s back nine and front nine were in complete contrast to each other where he carded four birdies on the back and dropped three shots on the front.
Meanwhile Ogilvy carded a third round score of three-under, 68. Both players are struggling to barge into the upcoming President’s Cup team and both need a strong finish here on PGA to make it happen.
“Well, I'm trying not to think about anything other than just play good golf, but it creeps into your mind every now and then. As I said, The Presidents Cup is a pretty big deal. I would love to play Atlanta. It's much more fun to play Atlanta,” said Ogilvy.
Senden has made 17 cuts in his 23 appearances so far and his highest finish came at the Memorial where he finished for a joint seventh. Ogilvy, on the otherhand, has made 12 cuts out of 17 apearances he made in the current season.
Webb Simpson, who had impressive opening rounds of 65 and 68, succumbed to the windy conditions on the third day, falling for a disappointing two-over, 73. Finishing for an outright fifth, the Greensboro winner is now six shots away from the lead and is
under threat from the raging world number Luke Donald.
Donald posted a brilliant four-under, 67 in tough conditions to throw himself in contention. He pulled in six birdies and dropped two shots in the day to settle for a joint seventh alongside Sergio Garcia, Jim Furyk, Brandt Jobe and Mark Wilson.
“Just didn't do a lot very well on Thursday, even had some short game errors. And just tightened it up the last couple days and been a lot more solid. I feel like I'm more in control of the golf ball and giving myself a lot of opportunities,” said Donald.
Some of the big guns of the sport have been put to silence for the moment. Phil Mickelson (71), K.J Choi (73), Hunter Mahan (72), Bubba Watson (72), Adam Scott (74), Dustin Johnson (73) and quite a few others have now slumped down on the leaderboard without
any hopes of making a comeback.
Wilson, the overnight co-leader, probably had the worst day on Cog Hill on Saturday, posting a dreadful six-over, 77 to fall for a joint seventh. Opening with stellar performances, Wilson had carded rounds of 65 and 66 and was hoping to pull in a strong
finish if not a victory itself.
The championship will move to its fourth and final leg of the championship, the Tour Championship presented by Coca Cola with a mammoth first prize of $10-million.
Top 30 players from the FedExCup points table will qualify to play at the event with almost Top 20 have already confirmed a berth in the event. Top 70 from the Deutsche Bank Championship qualified for the third leg of the event.
